Hurling News:
Limerick Club Intermediate Championship Bruree vs Kilmallock
11-08-23
The stage was set for a brilliant matchup as Bruree took to the field in CoolyRoo to face the old enemy Kilmallock, in the second round of the County Intermediate Hurling Championship. Frankie Barrington scored the opening point of the game which was quickly responded to by Kilmallock to make it an even point to a point. This theme would continue for the beginning for the first half with Kilmallock keeping up with Bruree’s stellar scoring pace. Towards the end of the first half however, Bruree would begin to pull away. Three points from Jimmy O’Dea helped to give Bruree a five-point lead at half time with a score of 0-12 to 0-7.
Bruree’s fortunes would start the second half strong by not allowing Kilmallock to reduce their deficit. Sam Cronolly’s points from play and frees in the second half coupled with Paddy Lynch’s 1-2 from the bench helped to bring the victory home for Bruree. The introduction of bench players also helped Bruree to apply constant pressure to Kilmallock in all parts of the pitch during the dying embers of the game.
With a final score of 1-25 to 0-19, this marks Bruree’s second convincing victory in the opening two rounds of this championship. Bruree’s next game against Knockaderry takes place on August 31st. While no venue has been confirmed: keep an eye on Clubzap for further details on this.
Junior B vs Knockainey 15-02-23
The Junior B team lined out against Knockainey on Tuesday night and continued their successful run of form by beating them.
The first half was close to begin with with both teams scoring from placed balls and from play. Bruree then began to pull away gaining a lead of 0-12 to 0-6 points. The Bruree backs led by Jimmy Leslie at Centre back played exceptional by utilising man marking to stop Knockainey scoring towards the end of the first half.
Bruree began the second half strong and cruised to victory with goals from Michael Lane, Brian McCarthy and Michael O’Donnell helping to build a final score of 3-25. Even Knockainey’s two late goals would not be enough to bring them victory as their three points in the second half only brought their tally to 2-9.
U13's football v Na Piarsaigh in Caherdavin Thursday last.
Our u13's finished off their campaign with a great performance away to Na Piarsaigh, who started well with the opening two points. Conor Ryan settled us into the game with a well taken point followed up by another point from Cody Harding. A goal soon followed from our nipple corner forward Donnacha O’Dwyer. Gary Murphy with a goal and a point and a Daithí Curley point stretched our lead and a fine save from our goalie Luke Crotty left the halftime score Killacolla Gaels 2- 4 Na Piarsaigh 0-2.
As expected, Na Piarsaigh came out firing with a goal and a point early in the 2nd half, another fine save from our goalie Luke Crotty kept the opposition at bay and the excellent Shane lynch setting Donnacha O’Dwyer up for his 2nd goal of the night with a beautiful foot pass, which stemmed the tide. By now Tom Frawley and Michael McCarthy began to take charge at fullback and centre back respectively and the forwards were in full flow with the twin terrors of Shane lynch, with a goal and a point and Donnacha o Dwyer with a point cause major trouble up front and Gary murphy completing the scoring with a goal and a point late on leaving the final score Killacolla Gaels 5-6 Na Piarsaigh 2-3.
Team was Luke Crotty, Evan o Shea, Tom Frawley, Darragh o Sullivan, Conor Ryan, Michael McCarthy, Junior O’Donnell, AJ Caulfield, Gary Murphy, Sam O’Donnell, Daithí Curley, Shane Lynch, Adam Dooley, Cody Harding, Donnacha o Dwyer, Sam Carey, Jack Carey, Liam Dore and Cathal McCarthy. Missing on the night but who played a big part with us all season were Kellen O’Connor, James Cussen, Ryan Farrell, Eoin O’Riordan, Noah Culhane and Eoin Dooley. Big thanks to our mentors Paul Crotty, Shane O’Donnell, Andrew Cussen, Richie Caulfield, and Shane O’Dwyer for their work with the team this season.
