South Intermediate Hurling League: Bruree 5-17 Croom 0-13
Bruree’s second round of the South Intermediate Championship against Croom was blessed with more than just good weather.
Mirroring our previous run out the scoring was opened with a goal from Kieran O’Dea. He followed this with two points. Which all went unanswered by Croom.
While Croom still were unable to break our defence for even a point Sam Cronolly added to the goal tally.
Shortly after this Michael Lane made a brilliant run from the half forward line to provide Kieran with his third goal completing his hattrick.
Following this Croom struck back by applying pressure to our defence which culminated in three points in quick succession. While they had goal chances goalkeeper Daniel Lane’s communication with the full back line allowed for our net not to be breached.
The half would also see great play in midfield between Tommy Cronolly and Frankie Barrington.
The half ended with a goal from Ronan O’Halloran which gave us a comfortable score of 5-10 to Croom’s 0-08.
The second half while not as eventful as the first half would see Bruree work the ball consistently from the back and through midfield.
Our backs remained strong and defended a number of long range frees by winning arial battles which led to us keeping a clean sheet on the goal front.
Two points from Tommy Cronolly helped us seal the win despite Croom rallying with three points.
The final score of 5-17 to 0-13 is a reflection of Bruree’s form of late and a credit to all involved long may it continue.
Junior A Hurling League- 21st of April 2023. Bruree 3-16 Brackrock 0-12
The second round of the South Junior A Hurling League took place on Friday the 21st of April in Kilfinane against Blackrock.
While the weather had been bad in the day leading up to the match we were blessed with a golden hour between 6:30 and 7:30 which aided in us cruising to a convincing second victory.
The first half would see us place a total of 1-9 on the board thanks to another goal from Sean Riordan complimented by points from Donie Deady, Ronan O’Halloran and Michael Shinney.
While Blackrock were able to put scores over the bar in parts of the first half, our full back line made up of William Sexton (FB), Fionán O’Driscoll & debutaunt Colm McCarthy managed to put a stop to any goal chances by Blackrock.
The wonderful play from all parts of the pitch led to us having a comfortable lead of 1-9 to 0-06.
The second half would see Bruree kick on further by registering two more goals coming from David Barron and a long range strike from Frankie Barrington. Good distribution from the half back line would see us registering even more points on the board.
Gerard O’Dea’s first time between the sticks for the Junior B’s would see him keep a clean sheet pull off some amazing saves in the second half, which would eventually see us prevail with a win of 3-16 to 0-12
U13 Football – 20th April Killacolla Gaels 4-3 Bruff 0-1
Our U13’s got their first victory of season in football versus Bruff in sunny Bruree on Thursday evening. Bruff took the lead with an early free but Killacolla soon warmed to the task. Our athletic midfield of DaithĂ Curley and Gary Murphy leading the way. Two points by DaithĂ, one from a free, and well taken goal from Cody Harding left the half time score 1-2 to 0-1. In the second half our defence was on top marshalled well by Tommy Frawley at full back and Dylan Sheehy at centre back. Scores soon followed with a point from Cody and a beautifully finished goal by AJ Caulfield. The hard-working Kellen O’Connor added a third goal and set up Cody for his second goal after an excellent team move involving Conor Ryan with a lovely solo run. A real team performance in which all players got good game time. Final score Killacolla Gaels 4-3 Bruff 0-1. Team Luke Crotty, Darragh O’Sullivan, Tom Frawley, Noah Culhane, Conor Ryan, Dylan Sheehy, Shane Lynch, DaithĂ Curley, Gary Murphy, Junior O’Donnell, Cody Harding, AJ Caulfield, Adam Dooley, Kellen O’Connor, Evan O’Shea, Sam O’Donnell, Liam Dore, James Cussen, Owen Dooley, Donnacha O’Dwyer, Ryan Farrell, Aidan Kelly.
