There was a grand gathering at Bruree today for the Anne Potter Perpetual Cup U10 Hurling Tournament, and the young hurlers served up a day of action that will be remembered for some time to come.

With four teams competing — Bruree, Monagea, Dromin/Athlacca and Charleville — there was no shortage of excitement from the first whistle.

In the opening semi-final, Bruree met Monagea in a lively contest. The home side showed great determination and hurling spirit to come through on a scoreline of 5-4 to 2-0 and book their place in the decider.

The second semi-final saw Dromin/Athlacca take on Charleville, with Charleville emerging victorious after another keenly contested game. And so the stage was set for a final between Bruree and Charleville.

The final proved every bit worthy of the occasion.

Both sides battled from start to finish, with neither willing to give an inch. Scores were hard fought for and every ball was contested as the young players gave everything they had in pursuit of the coveted Anne Potter Perpetual Cup.

At the end of normal time, there was still nothing to separate the sides, with the scoreboard reading 3-3 to 4-0. 

The crowd were treated to a stirring finish as Bruree and Charleville once again went hammer and tongs at one another. In the closing stages, Bruree managed to find the vital scores and, when the final whistle sounded, Bruree had won by two points.

There were jubilant scenes at the finish as the Bruree youngsters celebrated a magnificent victory.

It is the second occasion on which Bruree have captured the Anne Potter Perpetual Cup. 

Credit must also go to Charleville, who played their part in a splendid final, while Monagea and Dromin/Athlacca contributed to what was a most enjoyable day’s hurling. 

Congratulations are due to the Bruree players, their management and all the parents who gave such wonderful support throughout the day — a great occasion for the club and a victory they can all be proud of.
